We had a snowball fight in our classroom last week! In phonics, we have been learning that ie, y, and igh say the long i vowel sound. For example pie, cry, sight. There were several "snowballs" scattered around our classroom containing words with ie, y, or igh written on them. During our snowball fight, students could gently throw the paper snowballs below the belly. After a few seconds of the snowball fight, students would FREEZE, pick one snowball, read the word, and write it under the appropriate category on their recording sheet. For example, if a student found a snowball with sky, they would write it under the y column. Our snowball fight continued for about ten rounds. We had so much fun reviewing our phonics skill this week!
Students can now read words with ie, y, and igh. Please encourage your child to notice these chunks in words as they read. They can do it! :)
