We had a wonderful first day in first grade today! All of us entered with a variety of feelings. Some of us were very excited, while others were quite nervous, and yet some were both happy and scared. We listened to the book First Day Jitters by Julie Danneberg and discussed the many feelings we were having. The kiddos were quite surprised to hear that even Miss Martin was feeling nervous, scared, happy, and very excited! After spending the day with this terrific group, I think we all agree that first grade is a very fun place to be! I can't wait to see your little one again tomorrow.
Today was a busy day filled with routines and rules. We learned morning procedures, hallway and bathroom procedures, pencil procedures, drinking fountain procedures, lunch and recess procedures, calendar expectations, end-of-the-day procedures, and everything in between! The boys and girls did a great job listening and learning the procedures. I encourage you to ask your child about our classroom procedures. For example, ask them what they need to do when they go to the bathroom or where they go to find a sharpened pencil.
We also created a class promise together. We have three rules in our classroom: Be Safe, Be Kind, Be Responsible. Together we talked about each rule and brainstormed ideas about what they might look like in our classroom. I was so very impressed by all of their wonderful ideas! We are well on our way to having a safe, kind (Miss Martin's favorite rule!), and responsible group of kiddos. We even talked about our class clip chart and how we can earn tickets in our class. Please feel free to ask your child more about our classroom rules and why we have rules in first grade.
I loved spending time with each and every child in our class today! We have a great group of kiddos and I can't wait to get to know them more as the year progresses. Thank you again for entrusting me with your child. Your child is incredibly important to me and I care about them so very much already!
Pictures will be posted as soon as all of the blog permission slips are returned. Thank you for being patient during this time.
Looking forward to tomorrow,
Miss Martin
